Computer Use in the United States: October 1997

At work, school, and home, the personal computer has become a basic tool. In October 1984, 1989, 1993, and 1997, the Census Bureau asked questions in the Current Population Survey (CPS), to assess ownership and use of computers. The 1997 survey, summarized in this report, also included questions on the Internet. Some data discussed here are not in the text tables but are available elsewhere.
